Mustapha Bulama, better known as Bulamacartoons, is an acclaimed editorial cartoonist and illustrator. Renowned for his satirical cartoons that provide commentary on Nigerian politics, social issues, and current events, Bulama has earned recognition and numerous awards for his work.
Currently, he makes cartoons for the Daily Trust newspapers, China Radio International (CRI) and DW.
He draws his inspirations from the works of many artists, his favorite being Albert Uderzo, Zapiro, Gado, Jason Seiler and Xose Tomas.
Apart from his editorial cartoons, Bulama has made significant contributions to children’s literature. He has illustrated over thirty children’s books for various authors and publishers. Notable among his works is the illustrated biography titled “Shehu Musa Yar’Adua” and “Buhari of the People,” a captivating children’s biography of President Muhammadu Buhari.He has illustrated instructional materials for World Bank, WaterAid, Save the Children, The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law, Northern Education Initiative Plus, etc.
Bulama’s remarkable talent has garnered him several prestigious awards. In 2018, he received the Diamond Award for Media Excellence, recognizing his exceptional skills and contributions to the field. Additionally, he was honored as the Gold Prize Winner in the Illustrator category of the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award in the United States back in 2012.
